Mad Max, Mud & Mayhem: Mundi Mundi Goes Full Wasteland

If there was ever a place where dressing like you’ve just survived the end of civilisation seems completely normal, it has to be the Mundi Mundi Plains.

Friday morning saw the Bash temporarily transformed into something straight out of the wasteland as the Mad Max Procession rolled into Mundiville — and bloody hell, the Bashers didn’t muck around with the costumes.

Leather, goggles, face paint, shoulder pads, questionable hairstyles and enough post-apocalyptic creativity to make you wonder whether some people had been preparing for this moment their entire lives. Considering these very Plains have a genuine connection to the Mad Max universe, it couldn’t have happened in a better location.

Leading the procession was Mundi Mundi founder Greg Donovan, going completely all-in with the full Mel Gibson Mad Max treatment. There was no half-hearted leather jacket and pair of sunnies here — Greg looked ready to abandon festival management completely and head off down the Silverton Road searching for petrol.

And quite frankly, I reckon he was enjoying himself far too much.

Adding another layer of beautifully organised chaos were the brilliant CrackUp Sisters, who seemed completely at home amongst the wasteland warriors. Their uniquely Australian combination of comedy, outback humour and general silliness fitted the occasion perfectly. These ladies could probably turn a council meeting into entertainment, so give them hundreds of Mad Max characters in the middle of the outback and they’re in their natural habitat.

But the real stars were the Bashers themselves.

The amount of effort people put into their costumes was outstanding. Some were funny, some were ridiculously detailed and a few looked alarmingly prepared should society actually collapse next Tuesday.

A massive thank you to everyone who dressed up, joined the procession and embraced the madness. You didn’t just attend an activity — you created the spectacle and made it one of those wonderfully ridiculous Mundi Mundi moments I’ll remember for a very long time.

Only in the outback. Only at Mundi Mundi.
