SUPPORTED BY RHYTHMOS CHOIR, ERA AND PARABELUM – THE ROSEMOUNT HOTEL FRIDAY 26TH JUNE 2026
Friday night, 26 June, saw me rushing home from work, throwing on the gig gear and heading straight back out the door for something a little different at the Rosemount Hotel. The occasion was Legacy Alive’s Vicennial album launch, backed by the mighty Rhythmos Choir, with support from ERA and Parabelum.
Now, I will admit it: I had not seen an upbeat arena-rock band paired with a choir before, so I was walking in with plenty of curiosity and absolutely no idea what to expect. That is often where the good stuff lives.
First up was Parabelum, a high-energy melodic-rock outfit made up of Krissy, Jake, Mick and, if we are including the man holding down the keys, Spinal Chap. These guys did not gently welcome us into the evening. There was no soft launch, no polite “hello Perth,” and certainly no easing into the volume. It was more like getting whacked in the head with a shovel full of riffs—in the best possible way.
Powerful vocals, killer drum beats and sizzling string work had the room moving early. Parabelum clearly love playing loud, rocking hard and having a bloody good time while doing it. The energy coming off that stage was huge, and they were a cracking choice to open the night.
Next came ERA, a band I had not seen or heard before—and I absolutely love that feeling. A clean slate. No expectations. Just a stage, a crowd and the chance for a new band to make their case.
ERA served up ’80s rock by the bucketload. Their whole aura screamed my childhood, from the sound to the swagger to the way they made every cover feel like their own. This was a well-oiled machine that read the room beautifully, delivering the sort of songs that had plenty of people singing along, tapping feet and remembering where they were when hairspray was considered a personality trait. I walked away a big fan.
Then it was time for the main event.
When Legacy Alive and the Rhythmos Choir stepped onto the Rosemount stage, it was packed wall to wall with talent. The plan was to play Legacy Alive’s latest album, Vicennial, with some seriously impressive backing behind them—and mate, they hit it out of the f&*king park.
There is something genuinely special about voices in their purest form. A choir does not just fill out a song; it can lift it, reshape it and punch straight through the chest when everything lines up. That happened more than once across the night. The performance was tight, electric and full of intent. You could see the work that had gone into it. Everyone on that stage laid it all out—bare bones and all.
“Crimes of the young” and “Heartbreaker” were standouts for me. Both had that catchy, driving energy that makes standing still feel like a poor life choice. When Rhythmos stepped things up again during “Running Up That Hill,” I was completely locked in. Very cool indeed.
“Making Memories,” track number 10 from the album and already one of my personal favourites, landed even harder with the choir behind it. But the icing on the cake was always going to be “Unbreakable.” Damn, that song is sexy, punchy and technically on point. You can see why it is one of their favourites to play—it has all the bits, and it delivers every time.
All up, this was a stellar night of local music, big voices and bands doing things properly. Legacy Alive will now take a short break for some important family commitments—extensions and marriages, congratulations on both—but I am very keen to see how those big life moments shape the next chapter of their music.
Because after a night like this, there is no doubt Legacy Alive have plenty more stories left to tell.
