LIVE REVIEW – Kate Ceberano “Australian made Tour”

Astor Theatre, Perth Western Australia 3rd July 2025

Some shows don’t just entertain — they remind you why music matters. Kate Ceberano’s “Australian Made” tour stop at the Astor Theatre was one of those rare and powerful nights: a celebration of four decades on the road, curated with the love, grit and soul that only someone like Kate could deliver.

Before the main event, we were treated to an expected gem in Kathleen Halloran, who took the stage solo with just an acoustic guitar — but filled the entire room. Her intricate fretwork and melodic vocals pulled us forward in our seats, magnetized by her presence. I swear, if my seat wasn’t bolted to the floor, I’d have been on stage beside her, hanging on every note, it was captivating!

Her track “Find Me Again” stood out — raw, emotive, and utterly mesmerizing. It’s no wonder her peers speak so highly of her — you don’t just hear her music, you feel it. make sure you check her out on her socials, she has new music coming out really soon and is definitely one to watch.

After a short break (and a well-earned beverage), the theatre buzzed with quiet anticipation. No setlist, no spoilers — just a promise from Kate to honour the music that shaped her, and us, over the last 40 years.

And then — boom — there’s Kate Ceberano, behind a kit, smashing out rhythms on electric drums while singing flawlessly. An immediate statement: Is there anything this woman can’t do? The answer, clearly, is no.

Flanked by the ridiculously talented Kathleen Halloran on one side and the sonic wizardry of Harts on the other, the trio tore through a kaleidoscope of Australian classics and Ceberano’s own iconic back catalogue. It was less of a concert and more of a musical time machine.

We were swept through reimaginings of Silverchair, Bernard Fanning, and a heartfelt homage to Hunters & Collectors. Kate shared stories that made the night feel intimate and unscripted — from her “kissing style” shaped by that boy (whoever you are, mate, well done!), to almost joining Joe Camilleri and the tale behind the beloved track “Harley and Rose” which were heard later – that was huge sing-along, let me tell you!

The production itself was slick and stylish — a backdrop (Kate’s handmade spread) that pulsed with symbolism and style, echoing Kate’s career and charisma. It wasn’t overdone, just cool AF (no better way to say it).

One of the most delightful surprises came in the form of “exotic headbands” (tambourines in disguise?) that had the crowd dancing through the Milky Way with joy, nostalgia, and the kind of abandon that only great music can conjure. Kate’s own tracks were given new life, blended seamlessly into the larger fabric of Aussie music history.

And that’s what made this night special. It wasn’t just about Kate. It was about us — the artists, the audience, the stories and the songs that shaped the Australian musical landscape. Kate just happened to be the perfect narrator for this incredible journey.

By the end, the crowd was on its feet, not just for the music, but for the moment. “Australian Made” is more than a tour — it’s a heartfelt homage, a masterclass in performance, and a bold, BRAVE reminder of the power of live music.

Kate, Kathleen, and Harts — thank you. You gave us a night to remember.
Do yourself a favour: catch this tour if you can. It’s brave, iconic, and powerful — just like the woman at its centre.

Massive thank you to Kate Ceberano’s Team and Cardinal Spin Communications for the Media Access.
