Mundi Mundi Lightfest 2026 – Broken Hill Turned It On!
Before the dust starts flying at the Mundi Mundi Bash, Broken Hill throws a warm-up party of its own—and the Mundi Mundi Lightfest proved the Silver City certainly knows how to put on a show.
Running from Saturday through to Monday night, Argent Street was closed to traffic and handed over to the people. It’s not often you can sit in the middle of Broken Hill’s main street, eat dinner on a fluorescent cube with a few hundred new mates and not cause a major traffic incident—or receive some unwanted attention from the local constabulary.
A live band was belting out tunes from the back of a trailer, which is about as Australian as live entertainment gets, while a DJ kept the kids dancing like bedtime had been officially cancelled. The street performers were also a huge hit, drawing plenty of smiles, laughs and the occasional confused look from those wondering, “How on earth did they do that?”
Families gathered to watch the drone show light up the sky behind Argent Street, giving everyone another reason to look up from their phones. The food trucks were also doing a roaring trade, because nothing builds an appetite quite like walking from one end of Argent Street to the other and pretending it counts as exercise.
The best part was seeing so many generations enjoying the night together. Locals and out-of-towners visiting for the Mundi Mundi Bash mingled through the beautiful streets of Broken Hill like one enormous, slightly dusty family reunion—just without the awkward questions from relatives.
The local watering holes were pumping, buses were ferrying people all over town, and everywhere you looked there were smiling families, laughing children and people enjoying some good old-fashioned fun. No complicated agenda, no fancy dress code—just turn up, grab a feed and enjoy the outback atmosphere.
There was something special about seeing people simply getting out and living in the moment. It was relaxed, welcoming and packed with the genuine hospitality Broken Hill is famous for. The city opened its main street and, naturally, everyone made themselves right at home.
All up, the Mundi Mundi Lightfest was a cracking way to spend a Sunday night. Broken Hill delivered smiling families, great entertainment, good food and plenty of outback character.
