SUPPORTED BY MARLO, LAURA VAN DAM AND JOEBENGER WITH B2B JDF

Hyperave transformed the Robinson Pavilion at the Mt Claremont Showgrounds into a pulsing electronic playground, delivering a full-throttle night of dance, rave and trance that reminded everyone why Perth punches well above its weight when it comes to electronic music culture. No bands, no distractions — just DJs, decks, and thousands of bodies moving in unison.

Opening duties fell to local talent Joe Benger and B2B JDF, and they wasted absolutely no time setting the tone. Despite the sun still hanging around and the light show yet to properly fire up, the duo had punters kicking off early. The crowd was a diverse mix and already in party mode, and the energy on the floor suggested Hyperave was going to be a big one. What stood out most was how tight and focused the set remained while crowds continued streaming into the pavilion. Even at this early stage it was clear this wasn’t a slow-burn night — it was already a bumper turnout.

Next up was Laura van Dam, and from the moment she took control, the tempo lifted another notch. With appearances at Tomorrowland, Ultra, EDC and Sziget, Laura van Dam is quickly cementing herself as one of the most exciting emerging names in electronic music, and her Perth performance showed exactly why. Armed with a sound that’s earned her a global following and more than 36 million streams across Spotify and YouTube, she delivered a set packed with energy, engagement and cracking tunes. The crowd fed off her presence behind the decks, and the pavilion began to properly glow as the afternoon transitioned toward night.

Then came MaRLo — Dutch-born, Australian-based, and one of the world’s premier trance DJs. A personal favourite, and a master of his craft, MaRLo delivered a set that felt effortless yet powerful. His transitions were slick and seamless, flowing together like liquid gold. There’s a rare ability in knowing how to squeeze just that little bit more emotion and energy from a crowd, and MaRLo did it with ease, elevating the room once again and setting the stage perfectly for what was to come.

Finally, the global icon Armin van Buuren entered the arena, and from the first beat it was absolute mayhem — in the best possible way. A full laser and light show exploded into life, instantly transforming the pavilion into a sensory overload. Watching Armin work is watching an elite-level master at play. There’s a reason he’s been named World’s Best DJ five times, four of those consecutively. The precision, the timing, the control — it was something to honestly behold.

The combination of light, smoke and lasers was intense, amplifying every drop and breakdown. The only people not dancing were those desperately trying to catch their breath. It was immersive, euphoric and, dare it be said, spiritually enlightening — one of the most exciting electronic shows I’ve ever experienced…………WOW!
Massive thanks to the Hyperave and Mellen Events teams for the access and for delivering a world-class event. Perth showed up, the DJs delivered, and Hyperave left a serious mark on the city’s rave calendar.
